Hercules (Herakles), famed for his strength and endurance, became immortal among the Olympian gods through his legendary labors. Son of Zeus and Alkmene, his life was plagued by Hera’s jealousy—she delayed his birth so his cousin Eurystheus would rule and sent snakes to kill him, which he easily strangled.
