Medusa detta Rondanini Ring

The Rondanini Medusa, a Roman marble copy of a 5th-century BC Greek original by Phidias, blends chthonic dread with Olympian beauty. Housed in Munich’s Glyptothek, it is the oldest known “beautiful gorgoneion” and was first praised by Goethe in the 1780s.
